Easy Breakfast Ideas For Picky Toddlers

This post is sponsored by Happy Family Yogurt but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

An every day struggle for most parents is getting your children to eat. Well, not just anything – but HEALTHY food. Thank goodness Royce enjoys many veggies now like potatoes, carrots and zucchini to name a few, but it took us a while to get here. I actually posted in a mom group asking if anyone had any suggesstions on how to make my picky toddler enjoy other food than sweets. For a few weeks straight he was living off fruit and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. In order to get some veggies in, I’d sneak in spinach and carrots into his smoothies but it still wasn’t helping the fact that he didn’t like the TASTE of anything that wasn’t sweet.

Through our struggles, I found some really easy breakfast ideas for him that helped fill his belly first thing in the morning. I like to think that starting the first meal off great will set the standard for the rest of the day!

  1. Egg muffins – I usually mix peppers, turkey sausage and onions with my egg and sprinkle a little cheese on top. They are also great for snacks on the go!
  2. Smoothies – As said above, this my favorite and easiest way to sneak in veggies for Royce. They’re super easy to make in the morning and I love using this blender for them!
  3. Happy Tots yogurt – Royce loves these! While the brand has a bunch of different food (we’ve tried almost all of their baby food pouches and the alphabet snacks ) our latest discovery was the yogurt. I grabbed a few the last time at our local Walmart and Royce loved it so much the first time that I had to give him a second! It’s full of probiotics and Vitamin D which makes me even happier too.
  4. French toast – I didn’t have french toast that often growing up so I completely forgot about this. I love topping it with fresh fruit or even serving yogurt on the side for dipping rather than syrup. This is another one of Royce’s favorites!
  5. Oatmeal – While this is a classic, I’ve had fun trying out new flavors with Royce and he seems to like almost all of them. His new favorite is apples & cinnamon, and you can even make your own the night before and serve cold. I’m going to try the overnight method next week (click here for the recipe I’ll be following) because I run late in the morning more often than not, and need to feed my little one’s belly before sending him off to daycare.

These are all really simple meals for toddler and I often give them to Royce throughout the day! Have you tried Happy Tots yogurt? I’ve got a coupon just for you to save – click here!

Life Update & Enjoy Flowers Review

Since this post may be a little long, I’m going to break it down into two sections so if you’re only interested in reading about one, you’ll save a lot of time! First I’m going to do a little life update on school, a recent job change, and blogging.

As you (probably) know, I studied floral design through Ashworth College for the past year or so and recently graduated with honors! I’m so excited to be done and be able to take another step towards my career. With that said, I used to work at a local wholesale florist and it was not my favorite job for a number of reasons that I won’t go into detail about. It was a great place for me to start and learn more about the industry, but I wouldn’t have even put it in my 5 year plan. I recently got the opportunity to work at a shop which is more of my speed and where I want to be anyway, so I didn’t think too much when it came down to leaving the wholesaler. It’s better for me in a number of ways and I also get to spend more time with Royce which is the biggest thing for me right now. I can work harder down the line when he gets into preschool and has a set schedule, but for now while he’s little I want to spend as much time as possible with him.

Now blogging is a little different, because while I do sharing little details about my life and my favorite fashion items, baby products, and more, I’m not sure this is what I want to do forever. As of this moment, my blog is going to be something that I take a little less serious and post when I want, what I want, and don’t stress over meeting huge deadlines with certain posts. While working from home all the time would be great, it’s not as glamorous as people may think it is and actually involves a lot dedicated time. I also don’t want Royce to remember his childhood as being home with me all the time but my face stuck staring at a computer or phone screen all day either.

Enjoy Flowers review time! I was lucky enough to try this subscription service and let me just say they did not disappoint. From someone who is around flowers often and I know what good quality is, Enjoy Flowers did an excellent job making sure the flowers I received were still beautiful, fresh, and ready to be gifted to someone else (or used in your own home)! With Mother’s Day coming up, I think this would be the perfect subscription service for Mom. How many times do you buy fresh flowers for yourself? Not often, right? But when you get fresh flowers, you’re always so happy and adore how beautiful they look placed in your home. Enjoy Flowers offers different styles of bouquets and arrangements and even wedding flower service for a great price!

I’ll be rounding up some of my favorite gifts for mom next week! What are your go-to gift ideas?

Loving Lately – Natural Baby Products

natural baby products

Oilogic Calming Cream | Honest Diaper Rash Cream | Honest Bug Spray  | Tom’s Toddler Toothpaste  |Wink Naturals Chest Rub

My last Loving Lately post was about hair & personal care, but this time I’m focusing on babies & kids rather than mama!

There’s a million and one reasons why you should care about natural products for yourself, but even more for your baby. Let’s just say that the most popular products for the little’s that have been around for years aren’t as safe and gentle as they claim to be. The safest products you can use are the ones that are made with ingredients right from our earth.

These are a couple of my favorite products that Royce and I have been using a lot recently. You might be wondering why I’m using the bug spray in the middle of winter – I’ve found that it really helps stop you scratching an itch whether it’s from a bug bite or even dry skin!

When I’m not using Royce’s special cream for eczema, I use the Oilogic calming cream at night since it has lavender to soothe him. Many other brands break him out so we usually stick to one kind of lotion, but this doesn’t at all. Plus I just love smelling the soft lavender scent when I’m cuddling him 😉

The product I’m most excited about that also has lavender is the Wink Naturals chest rub! You can shop the products on their website or here. Royce and I have been SO sick recently with nasty coughs from congestion and I’ve bee putting this on his chest (and mine) and even on the bottom of our feet. My coworker recommended that trick to me and I’m not sure if it works, but when someone says xyz helps them feel better… you try it!

The diaper rash cream is something that I don’t have to use that often anymore, but whenever I see any sign of pink or red down there I use it and this is by far the #1 product by the Honest Company I recommend to people. It works instantly and you see a huge difference within a single day.

Lastly, Tom’s toothpaste is something I’m really excited to use because Royce actually has teeth now. If you didn’t know, it took him forever to get his first two and now he has FOUR on the bottom and two coming down on top. I’m trying to get his good habits started early and he actually likes this toothpaste! He actually runs to me when he sees the toothbrush now and opens his mouth so I can brush them. It’s soooo cute.

If you have any recommendations for natural baby products we should try, leave them in a comment below!

How I’m Keeping Up With My 2018 Resolutions

Day Designer Planner Paintly Floral

Planner: c/o Day Designer | Plaid shirt: Old Navy | Distressed denim jeans: Old Navy | Watch: c/o AIBI

This blog post is totally spur of the moment but I’ve discovered a few programs/studies that I had to share with you! I made a few resolutions for this year like the rest of the world, and instead of just sharing them with you I wanted to talk about how I plan to keep up with them.

Before I start, I wanted to talk to you about my new planner by Day Designer which is a DREAM! I haven’t gotten around to using it that much yet but I’ve been wanting one for the longest time. I’ve heard they change the way people organize and manage their every day lives… plus they’re all just so pretty. I’ve always been obsessed with stationary products and while some people prefer their online calenders and agendas, I need a hard copy to stay organized. I had a tough time choosing which one I wanted (I almost got this one and this one) but decided on the “Painterly Floral” design. On a side note, I really aim to grow my clientele for floral design this year so I thought this version would keep me inspired!

Now lets talk about the real reason why you came. Here are my 2018 resolutions (in no particular order) and how I’m keeping up with them so far!

1. Live Healthier

As you may or may not know, I did Whole 30 and lost 10 pounds. I will be the first to admit that it’s HARD, even if the program tells you not to use that word. I plan to start the Hot Mom Bod Program in a few days which is a 12-week program designed for busy moms.  According to the program you can eat whatever you walk and only do a little exercise and still achieve your weight loss goals. I personally plan to cut back on my sugar intake, increase my water intake, and work out for 30 minutes a day while on the program. If you buy the program or have already done it, let me know! I’d love to learn about your results. My girl Mariah & I over at the blog Like Honey are also planning to do BBG soon. I’m really nervous about this one because I heard it is INTENSE.

2. Grow My Faith

My friend Kim (owner of Belle & Ten) & I are doing an online Bible study through Lifeway Women. We had this same resolution in mind and thought it’d be fun to kind of keep each other accountable! I love how in today’s world we have the option of doing a Bible study online and it can work with our busy schedules and on our own time. This will be just a jump start to my resolution and hopefully a way that’ll let me incorporate studying His word consistently every week.

3. Manage My Finances Smarter

I know I need to work on saving more, so I plan to start taking a portion of every check from my day job and putting it in a separate account. Royce & I have a few travel plans in mind I know I need to prepare for, like a road trip to Minnesota for my friend’s graduation (and possibly visiting Mall of America there!) and Atlanta if I decide to attend my graduation ceremony for my online classes. Beside from that, it’s nice to just have “cushion” money in case of an emergency. I also aim to cut back on unnecessary shopping and subscriptions and live more in the moment. I’ve already cut off my Netflix subscription and soon I’ll start creating a monthly budget for any shopping I do.

I’d love to know what your resolutions are for this year and how you plan to keep up with them! Maybe we can be online accountability buddies 😉

2017 Christmas Photos

ON ME:  Lace blouse: Pink Blush | Jeans: Marshalls (can’t find exact pair, but they’re ankle length with a zipper on the sides & mid rise | Booties: DSW | Watch: Daniel Wellington (use code “BLOOMWITHSTYLE” for 15% off – even gift sets! | Earrings: T.J. Maxx

ON ROYCE: Plaid shirt: Ross (similar here) | Jeans: (came with outfit) | Shoes: Adidas

Photos are something SO special to me, and I think a big reason behind that is because my family never got photos taken when I was younger (only school photos of myself and my brother). I was always jealous of my friends whose families sent out Christmas cards!

So let’s cut to the chase – YES, I am really, really late on getting Christmas photos. I’m ordering through Walgreens rather than a “nicer” print shop because they do same day printing and I’ll be able to get them out ASAP. Although we’re behind, I figured I’d still send them to friends & family because I believe the whole point of doing Christmas cards & photos is to give your loved ones a photo of your family to cherish for years to come. With that being said, I don’t think they will care if they arrive before or after Christmas!

I hope you & your family have an amazing holiday season and a wonderful New Year! Don’t forget to check out this page with all my favorite NYE looks, office decor, & activewear. I don’t know about you, but one thing I definitely want to work on in 2018 is getting my butt in the gym more! I’m also hosting an AMAZING giveaway for any fashion lover on the 26th so don’t forget to stop by and enter. Trust me, you won’t want to miss it!

All About LIKEtoKNOW.it & Shopping My Blog

Surprisingly enough, many of you guys don’t know how to use LIKEtoKNOW.it or even what it is. I’m about to make your life a whole lot easier (or your shopping addiction a lot worse)!

Ever wish you could tap on an image and buy the products on it? Basically, that’s what you can do with this app. If you don’t want to use the app, you can get emails on the products featured in an image from your favorite bloggers. I love the LIKEtoKNOW.it app so much, but the emails make it really easy to forward your favorites to others… hint hint, your significant other 😉

What it is

LIKEtoKNOW.it is an app + website that enables you to shop influencer images from social networks like Instagram and across the mobile web. Bloggers tag products in their images and LIKEtoKNOW.it delivers the ready-to-shop product details to you via the LIKEtoKNOW.it app and email when you screenshot or ‘like’ an image on social media or the mobile web. You can also get different looks daily when you’re on the LTK.it app on the “Discover” page (which is essentially the same as the Instagram discovery feed, but shoppable). If you purchase an item through a blogger’s link on LTK.it, they may receive a small commission.

How to use it

I’m literally going to walk you through it step by step to make it as easy as possible to understand! I do have an iPhone but the LTK.it app is also available on Android!

1. Go to the App Store (or Google Play) and search for LIKEtoKNOW.it. Follow your phone’s instructions on how to install, then open up the app.2. Sign up to make an account, then go under your account settings and connect your Instagram. I promise, it’s completely safe! After you link your Instagram, anytime you “like” or screenshot an image on Instagram that is on LTK.it, it’ll show up on your home page in the app or you’ll receive an email with the products listed. If you want to search for looks and follow your favorite bloggers to find them all in one place, continue with the steps below.

3. Use the microscope to search for different users. Most of your favorite bloggers have their LTK.it usernames as the same as their Instagram name. You can find and follow me by searching “Bloomwithstyle”!

4. Now you’re on my page! You’ll see a gallery of different images I’ve made shoppable. Click on any image and be directed to products underneath that I’ve featured.

5. Once you click on an image, you can scroll down and see a list of different products. I try to link the exact items as much as I can, but due to popularity, many sell out QUICK. I also shop a lot at stores like T.J. Maxx where their in store inventory won’t be the same as online and every store is different. That’s why I’ll always link similar items so you can other options to recreate the look!

Shop my blog

Now I figured I’d add this in because I know a lot of people are confused. Under the images on my fashion posts, I will have a mini paragraph where I link all the items shown. This is where you’ll find the EXACT item I have, if I can. At the end of the post, I have a little widget that’s a slideshow of different products I’ve featured or mentioned. Sometimes they are the exact item, and sometimes they aren’t. I usually link a few similar items here as well. Like I said before, if you’re looking for the exact item, check the links under the images first.

You can also shop my LTK.it images by clicking on the last button in my social media handles bar as shown!

Hope that helps you if you had questions on how to shop my blog! Thank you for supporting Bloom With Style by making purchases through my links. Happy shopping!

Loving Lately – Hair & Personal Care

If you follow me on Instagram and Twitter, you’d know that I’ve been on the hunt for a new dry shampoo and products to maintain my crazy curly hair. While I haven’t found my perfect shampoo & conditioner yet, I have three other hair products I’ve been loving lately that I want to share!

Hair

When my hair is natural and curly, I need something to control the bottom half of my hair because it gets frizzy and becomes poofy if that makes sense. The aveda be curly serum has really helped let my natural curls shine and be lightweight and look more put together. I got this at my local salon during my last visit and I plan to dry out their damage remedy line for shampoo and conditioner as I’ve heard great things about it!

My most popular hair style is just my loose waves/curls. I have to straighten my hair first and then curl it (curly hair probs) and always need to use a spray to keep them in place. The one I’ve used and love by far out of any sprays I’ve had is this one by Chi. It keeps my curls lightweight and never sticky if you know what I’m talking about.

I saved the best for last! I’ve been a lover of dry shampoo since I had Royce. I didn’t use it too often before because well, I had the time to wash my hair! Anyway, I tried a dry shampoo from Batisse that I got from Marshalls months back and while it got the job done, it didn’t do much and I wasn’t crazy about it. I definitely didn’t like how much white residue it left. To be honest, I think people only like it because the bottles are pretty and it smells good! I grabbed the grapefruit scented Herbal Essence dry shampoo when I was at Target and all I have to say is: GET IT! It’s so lightweight which is huge for me because I have thin hair and don’t need anything that’ll weigh my hair down. It’s also really inexpensive AND can be found at most drugstores so if you forget one and can’t stop at your local salon or beauty store, you can still get it!

Personal care

I know, totally not something I’d normally review but I have to tell you about the new line from Summer’s Eve. Back in high school and college I was misinformed and thought using products down there was safe and key to good feminine hygiene. WRONG. You shouldn’t use anything down there really because the woman’s reproductive parts are self cleaning. I know, this is weird to talk about. BUT Summer’s Eve has the Simply line out and all the products are free of harsh chemicals, dyes, alcohol and parabens. Of course these aren’t something you need to use every day, but it’s nice to have safe products to use on your body after your monthly or just because to make you feel cleaner down there. What I love about these compared to competitors is that the scents aren’t overbearing – my favorite is the mandarin but the coconut is really soft and sweet too. I literally always have a few travel wipes with me in my purse!

Royce’s 1st Birthday Party

This post is a littttle behind, but better late than never, right?

Royce is officially ONE! If you’ve been following me from the start, I have two things to say to you: Thank you & I love you. Without my close friends, family, and YOU, I wouldn’t be the mom I am today! Getting pregnant with Royce at 20 was terrifying and I was unsure if I’d be a good (or a decent) mother. Now that he’s one and turning into an intelligent, loving, and outgoing toddler, I feel much better about my parenting skills but know that I owe a great deal of it to those who have kept up with us and offered kind words and hugs, even if they are virtual.

Behind this sappy message is going to be details on his party, I promise! I seriously just want to express my thanks to everyone who has helped me become a better mother in any sort of way. Even through simple Instagram DM’s and Facebook messages, I have taken those words to heart. I want to hug each and every person who has had a part in both of our lives thus far!

All of that to say that his 1st birthday party was small(ish) but filled with fun! My plan was to NOT spend a lot because well, he’s only one, and everyone knows the first few parties are mostly for the adults 😉 For “real” food we had pulled chicken sandwiches, chips and black bean + corn salsa, a french onion dip, and a nacho cheese dip. We also had a fruit and veggie tray, baked mac & cheese, and cheesy potatoes. YUM. The dessert table shown above looks fancy but it was actually really inexpensive. All of the decor was from Oriental Trading, the Target dollar spot from this year + last, and surprisingly Meijer’s craft section! The little debbie cakes were a hit (and saved me a lot of money from buying themed cookies that would be $2+ each) and everyone LOVED the hot cocoa bar. My sweet cousin helped me with the smores on a stick and even those who aren’t huge s’mores eaters enjoyed them!

I have a normal cake lady that I found on Facebook and used for Royce’s baby shower, but unfortunately she was sick and couldn’t do his cake. I went back to the good ol’ Facebook and found another amazing local cake lady who made this beautiful birch tree cake. NO ONE thought it was real! Thank goodness I got photos of it before my cousin poked her finger in it and made a huge dent on it because she thought it was a tree log! If you’re in Rockford, search “Simply Sweet Expressions” and let her take care of the cake for your next event!

Funny story… Royce was not a happy camper when we sang to him. I think he was so overwhelmed by how many people were there and everyone singing at once that he started bawling. A week later on his actual birthday we took him to see Santa and he also cried then! Of course it’s not fun seeing him cry but he’s still so cute when he does.

Buffalo Plaid mug tumbler

The last super cute item that fit in perfectly with his birthday party theme is this travel tumbler from Made by Crafter Hours! I got several compliments on it at the party. I bought an adorable monogram clutch from this same shop maybe 2 years ago and I still use it once a month. The shop owner is the sweetest and really timely getting back to you about something. If you love monograms like me, definitely check out her shop (she’s also doing 12 days of deals on IG right now!)

Once again, thank you to everyone who helped make his birthday party a success and showered him with love. I can’t wait to plan another party and see what the trends are around this time next year!

Holiday Traditions You Can Start This Year

Plaid pajama set on Royce: Target

The holidays are here and I couldn’t be happier! I mean, who doesn’t like walking into stores decked out with glitter, lights, and humming along to Christmas music? One of my favorite things to do is go to the mall and see the giant Christmas tree and Santa Clause in front- that’s a big tradition for many families, and I plan to take Royce this year too!

I want to start a few traditions because we didn’t really do any when I was younger, so I always felt like I was missing out. I want the holidays to be a time where my family comes together and has something to look forward to every year. It’s really important to set aside time to bringing your family closer whether it’s around the holidays or not.

I will tell you that one of my family’s traditions will NOT be elf on a shelf. For one, the elf kind of creeps me out… and two, I don’t think I’d remember to move him every day!

If you’re like me and need some creative ideas for holiday traditions besides making a gingerbread house, here’s a few that your family will enjoy:

  1. 25 days of giving – For the days of December leading up to Christmas, do something nice for someone each day. It has to be something you wouldn’t NORMALLY do. For example, opening a door for a woman (or a man) doesn’t count. Aim to buy someone’s coffee, take on someone else’s chores, shovel the snow for your neighbor, leave a snack for the UPS/USPS/FedEx delivery person, etc. I’m sure you are even more clever than me! Have each member of your family write down what they did for someone else each night and discuss.
  2. Sponsor/adopt another child – This is the first year I’m doing this and I’m really pumped! A local shelter has hundreds of children whose parents can’t afford to get them gifts, so we have taken on that child’s list and are trying to get them everything they are asking from Santa! I love being able to give back to my community and make sure a child has a very merry Christmas.
  3. Movie & game night – Ever want to do something fun but didn’t want to spend the money? Put on your favorite pajamas, grab a bowl of popcorn, and watch a holiday classic! I love Home Alone and the Polar Express and they’re great for the whole family. Movie marathons don’t work for many families because someone will get antsy after the second or simply doesn’t like the movie choice, so opt for a board game after the movie!
  4. Out with the old & in with the new – Feel like your house doesn’t have room for your children’s new clothes and toys? Now is the time to purge! Ask your children which toys they no longer love, and donate them to a child in need!
  5. Christmas church services – Getting young children to love going to church can be difficult. The holidays is the perfect time to introduce them to church again or find the church you love. Most services around this time will be more fun and interactive for the them making them want to keep coming back. It’s also a great way to start a new year resolution of attending and being involved in the church more!

Don’t forget to look at my holiday gift guide, and let me know what your favorite traditions are!
